Valerie Gueye
Public Health, Health System Strengthening, and Strategic Planning
Valerie Gueye is a public health specialist with over 20 years of experience in sub-Saharan Africa.
Her work has focused on operations and implementation of programs related to maternal and reproductive health, HIV & AIDS, and behavior change, particularly on family planning and health systems strengthening. In addition to her engagements at The Berecons Group (Berecons LLC and BDI), she works as a consultant supporting various organizations on strategic planning, people management training, and resource mobilization. She has expanded her portfolio to include WASH and food security programs.
From 2008 to 2020, she served as the Country Director for Willows International, Ghana, responsible for implementing the community-based behavior change component of the Reducing Maternal Mortality & Morbidity (R3M) consortium in partnership with the Ghana Health Service. She also served as the Society for Women and AIDS Executive Director in Africa, leading strategic planning and partnerships, resource mobilization, and coordinating UN agency-funded training programs and activities for 39 Pan African member branches.
Valerie began her career with the Population Council in the US headquarters on the Expanding Contraceptive Choice program, which led to a role as the Regional Coordinator for Operations, West & Central Africa, Dakar, Senegal. She holds an MPH from Hunter College, City University of New York and a BA in Public Relations in the Fine Arts from Ithaca College, New York. She has professional fluency in French and long-term residency in Accra, Ghana, and Dakar, Senegal.
