Imad U. Ahmed (Ph.D)

Infrastructure Economics

​Imad Ahmed has a PhD in Infrastructure Economics and Finance from UCL and holds Infrastructure and Urban Advisory accreditation by the UK FCDO.

He is currently a Research Fellow at UCL assessing WASH interventions in post-disaster Indonesia. Over the course of four years as an embedded World Bank-funded advisor, he helped the Government of Rwanda structure, negotiate, and execute USD 800M of investment, including in the multi-award-winning Kigali Water PPP project and in sub-Saharan Africa’s first utility-scale project, GigaWatt Global. These projects were financed by the IFC, AfDB, EAIF, CDC, FMO, Norfund, FinnFund, AFC, and Stanbic.

He is publishing a book with Palgrave Macmillan, The Political Economy of Hydropower Dependent Nations – A Case Study of Zambia, and has published peer-reviewed journal articles and comment pieces in the Financial Times, The New York Times, and The Guardian.
